About Us

eiris is a safety technology consultancy that focuses on helping emerging startups, businesses and organisations deploy technology (including artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and augmented realities) safely and consider safety-by-design principles.

 

We consult with founders, investors, board members, universities and broadly, anyone who is working in the technology ecosystem to bring a social science perspective to reduce the risk of harm in products and services that are deployed to their consumers.

 

As digital and tech safety speakers, we also deliver addresses, webinars and talks on psychosocial considerations on cyber safety, digital wellbeing, combatting digital harassment in the workplace and unpacking AI to generate greater social impact.

This interview is part of a series of expert sessions with founders, academics, subject matter experts and advocates in the digital space. Talal Raza is an independent digital rights advocacy consultant based in Pakistan. With eleven years of experience in public policy and human rights advocacy across South Asia, Talal has a deep understanding of the socio-political challenges and opportunities within the region. His seven years working in an international environment have further strengthened his expertise in cross-cultural and diplomatic contexts. During his interview, Talal spoke extensively about digital rights in a South Asian context. Of note, he spoke about topics of internet access and usage, economic benefits of digital skills, political disinformation and harms associated with the lack of digital literacy in these countries. At eiris, we believe it is extremely important to include underrepresented voices, which includes those from countries in the Global South. Toby emphasised that transparency alone is insufficient in Trust and Safety efforts and that it is equally important to present information in a way that users can easily understand and engage with.
